boating, camping, fishing, hiking, hunting, picnic,
water sports, or wildlife viewing, Lake of the
Arbuckles has it all.
One of the best fishing lakes in Oklahoma, Arbuckle Lake is
known for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, white bass, and bluegill.
There are 36 miles of shoreline and 2,300 acres of open water.
Fishing is permitted year round. There are several boat ramps
and camping facilities.
Lake
of the Arbuckles is extremely
popular for boating. Vast
sections of the lake are available for powerboats. Whether you
like to fish, water ski, canoe, or enjoy recreational boating,
Chickasaw National Recreational Area provides an idyllic setting.
The park has six campgrounds with three
on the shores of the Lake of the Arbuckles. The remote Guy
Sandy campground offers
40 campsites on the western most tip of the lake. The campground
has picnic tables, fire rings, a boat ramp, potable water, and
pit toilets.
Finally, the Buckhorn Campground offers
177 sites in four loops. Loop C and D have electrical hookups
for recreational vehicles. The campground offers the best amenities with showers, dump station,
boat ramp, swimming area, fishing and direct access to hiking
trails.
Lake of the Arbuckles is formed by
the Arbuckle Dam, which is a feature of the Arbuckle Project. The Lake is located at the
confluence of the Buckhorn, Guy Sandy, and Rock Creeks. The area
presents unusual opportunities, combining recreational use with
scenic, scientific, and historic values. The Arbuckle Project
regulates flows of Rock Creek, a tributary of the Washita River
in south-central Oklahoma.
