Family Water Activities at Arbuckle Lake

Whatever you're looking for in outdoor adventure, boating, Arbuckle Lake fishing boatcamping, fishing, hiking, hunting, picnic, water sports or wildlife viewing, Lake of the Arbuckles has it all.

Fishing on Arbuckle Lake

One of the best fishing lakes in Oklahoma, Arbuckle Lake is known for catfish, crappie, largemouth bass, white bass and bluegill. There are 36 miles of shoreline and 2,300 acres of open water. Fishing is permitted year round. An Oklahoma fishing license is required, which can be purchased at Arbuckle Sports Center in Davis (580) 369-2687.  There are several boat ramps and camping facilities.

Boating on Arbuckle Lake

Lake of the Arbuckles is extremely popular for boating. Vast sections of the lake are available for powerboats. Whether you like to fish, water ski, canoe or enjoy recreational boating, Chickasaw National Recreation Area provides an idyllic setting.  If you would like to rent a boat to explore the Arbuckle Lake contact Arbuckle Boat Rentals at (580) 622-5790.

Camping at Lake of the Arbuckles

The park has six campgrounds with three on the shores of the Lake of the Arbuckles. Arbuckle Lake shorelineThe remote Guy Sandy campground offers 40 campsites on the western most tip of the lake. The campground has picnic tables, fire rings, a boat ramp, potable water and pit toilets.

RV-ing at Arbuckle Lake

Finally, the Buckhorn Campground offers 177 sites in four loops. Loop C and D have electrical hookups for recreational vehicles. The campground offers the best amenities with showers, dump station, boat ramp, swimming area, fishing and direct access to hiking trails.

Arbuckle Lake General Information

Lake of the Arbuckles is formed by the Arbuckle Dam, which is a feature of the Arbuckle Project. Arbuckle Lake sunsetThe Lake is located at the confluence of the Buckhorn, Guy Sandy and Rock Creeks. The area presents unusual opportunities, combining recreational use with scenic, scientific and historic values. The Arbuckle Project regulates flows of Rock Creek, a tributary of the Washita River in south-central Oklahoma.

 

Less than three hours away from Dallas/Ft. Worth and Oklahoma City, Chickasaw National Recreation Area is an ideal place to visit for a day, a weekend or a week. Open year round the cool waters are inviting during the blistering heat of the summer and the tepid waters offer quiet reflection along the many trails. The scenic beauty of the Arbuckle Mountains is a surprising national treasure waiting to be explored.
